TECHNICAL NEWS SHEET

SERIES: CT (MOTH) N0.9 ISSUE: 1 DATED: 30 JAN, 90

TITLE: RUDDER BAR PIVOT PIN

Aircraft Applicability: DH 60, DH60G, DH60M, DH60 MOTH MAJOR, DH QUEEN BEE, DH 82 and DH82A TIGER MOTH and DH83 FOX MOTH.

Cases have been reported where pivot pin, Part No. H 11288, for the front rudder bar assembly have been breaking away at the junction of the threaded portion to the pin shank.

Investigation has shown that this is due to an error in machining whereby the bore of the pin was drilled too deep.

We recommend that at the next 50 hr inspection operators should check pivot pins in both front and rear rudder bar assemblies and all pivot pins held in stock as spares as follows:

      a. Remove the felt wick from the bore of the pin and check the depth of the bore, using ¼” drill as depth gauge.

      b. Any pins with a depth of bore exceeding 1.1/16" should be rejected as unserviceable and discarded.
