Manufacturing prospect. DH.82A Tiger Moth cockpit door hinges. Like many proprietary parts used in the production of Tiger Moth airframes, cockpit door hinges are obsolete and deleted from catalogues, unless anyone knows better. Recent enquiries suggest that investigation of a small production batch may be warranted, unless there is a boxful out there waiting to be liberated. Who has and/or who needs? This was a high performance 138hp development of the Gipsy Major I inverted engine, with a higher compression ratio of 6.1, and at the time (1934) designed as more of a competition engine. Extensive use was made of special materials such as Stellited valves and an Electron magnesium alloy crankcase. Aircraft fitted with the Series II include DH.82A Tiger Moth (RAAF), Comper Streak, DH.80 Puss Moth, Miles Sparrowhawk and various other Miles designed aircraft. The total built of just 91 make this rare. This engine when dismantled and zero-timed by Vintech three years ago clearly had only a few hours running, but was fully rebuilt and inhibited and mothballed. Offers considered in excess of £25,000.
